You need a doctor’s Certificate of Incapacity for Work and sufficient PRSI. Dependant increases are not included.
Long-term incapacity

Do not rely on this alone: Illness Benefit rate depends on the Department’s relevant-year earnings calculation. Invalidity Pension requires both medical and contribution decisions; only PRSI classes A, E, H and S count.
