Additional Needs Payment guided check
For an essential expense that you cannot meet from weekly income or household resources. People in work on a low income can apply too.
Initial questions
Is the expense essential rather than optional?
Are you unable to pay it from weekly income and other household resources?
Is the cost not the responsibility of another department, agency or insurance policy?
Costs that may be considered
- Heating and electricity increases
- Essential repairs, appliances or furniture
- Private-rental deposits
- First-home furniture and bedding
- Funeral expenses
- Recurring hospital travel
- Immediate food, clothing or shelter after an emergency
Bring if available
Identity and PPSN, proof of income and savings, recent bank statements, household bills, quotes or invoices, and evidence explaining the urgent need. Do not delay urgent contact just because one item is missing.
Guidance only: this deliberately avoids a false payment figure. A Community Welfare Officer makes the decision using the full household circumstances.
